Sean Bodmer - In Passing

I have just learned that a very good but also close friend Sean Bodmer in my line of work has passed away.

I want to say how much disappointed I am by this fact.

Who am I and who is Sean? I'm a sort of unspoken pioneer into a novel market segment that emerged somehow on its own during the 2010-2015 period of time. It was a very specific and set of individuals who made cybercrime research impact on their own grounds whose research and its persistence were ahead of the time including ahead of major security vendors. While many were trying to label this trend as a single individual whose research was outpacing that of a team's work at a major vendor these specific individuals weren't really buying it in which is what made me an impression.

Today we have large scale Internet observatories such as the Shodan search engine which is pitching itself to novice users who inspire to become Threat Hunters a practice which wasn't really existing back then but is in a way a practice that is mimicking what this set of Hi, everyone,

This trend which we set up back then was even picked up by the U.S Intelligence Community with programs such as INTOLERANT and HAPPY TRIGGER/LOVELY HORSE/Zool/TWO FACE and Lovely Horse.

I originally met with Sean virtually of course through my line of work where I was always seeking his knowledge and expertise in a way of communicating my findings and secretly hoping he and others would notice.

Then in 2015 when I was about to move to the U.S seeking a new career opportunity and a permanent residency I asked him to write me a letter of recommendation for a National Interest Waiver which is an absolute dream when he actually wrote it which in the world meant the best thing ever because he was very knowledgeable in his field and he actually wrote it.

I want to say to everyone that I know and have worked with exchanged knowledge and expertise in my line of work in the security industry that I will be thinking more about him and how we knew each other and what we were really doing back.
